CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peel is a technique for destroying wrinkled, scarred or blemished facial skin. It involves the application of a chemical solution to peel away the top layers of skin, which will be replaced during the healing process with a fresh new skin surface. It is important that smoking is avoided for a month before the procedure and for at least six weeks afterwards. Smoking damages the skin and induces premature ageing, and may impede the healing process.

The procedure involves the application of the peel solution to the face with a cotton bud. Initially, some burning may be felt when it is applied, but the chemical itself acts as a local anaesthetic and the sensation passes quickly.
