Dermal fillers
Potential complications and risks
Because fillers are made of a naturally occurring chemical, allergic reaction is very rare.
As with any injection, there is a small risk of infection associated with the area. This is minimised by cleaning the area with antiseptic swabs before the injection is performed. It is helpful if you wear no make-up or foundation on the day of treatment. There is a small theoretical risk of infection within the skin which can lead to scarring of the skin.

During the injection, we slightly over-correct the area to be treated to allow for initial shrinkage. A small pinprick wound at the site of injection is barely noticeable within a few hours of the procedure. Occasionally there may be swelling, redness or tenderness. These will usually go of their own accord within a day or two – very rarely they may last up to two weeks. Repeated injections over years may result in a few fine broken veins in the area.
