Brow lift
After care
- You will be in hospital for 1 or 2 nights.
- There will be bruising on the forehead. This will last approximately 3 weeks.
- You may develop swelling of the eyelids, which can last for 48 hours. If severe, you may find it difficult to open your eyes for the first 24 hours. Your brow may also swell. Most of the swelling will settle within 2 to 3 weeks – this can be helped by staying upright for the first 4 days and nights, and avoiding too much bending.
- You will have bandages around your head after surgery. These will be in place for a minimum of 2 days, or until your follow-up appointment the following week.
- Any non-dissolvable sutures or staples will be removed at your follow-up appointment.
- You may be able to feel the ends of any dissolvable tacks, but these will go eventually.
- You can gently wash your hair with water after the operation, and with a mild shampoo 2 to 3 days later. Avoid rubbing the wound site with your hands or a towel. Do not use any hair dyes for several weeks.
- Depending on your occupation, you may consider returning to work in two weeks.
- Driving should be avoided for two weeks.
- Strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4 to 5 weeks. This includes jogging, repeated bending, heavy housework or any activity that increases your blood pressure.
- Minor swelling and bruising can be concealed with camouflage make-up once the stitches have been removed and the wounds have sufficiently healed over. This usually takes 10 to 14 days.
- Once any visible wounds have healed, sun block should be applied daily over the scars for the next year.
